A Letter to the Frog Prince
Greetings Your Royal Highness,
You might not remember me.
I’m Cousin Poison Dart Frog,
From across the family tree.
Mum said a princess kissed you
And your life turned out very well.
No human should try kissing me -
Their lips would certainly swell.
I’m not writing to ask for a palace,
Or fancy clothes or a throne.
I love my bright warning outfit.
I adore my rainforest home.
I climb up trees when I want to,
Or sit on the leaf litter floor,
Catching insects with my tongue.
How could I ever want more?
I expect you think back fondly
To your long-ago froggy times,
So, I’m writing to ask you a favour,
In the hope that you won’t mind.
I need the help of your people, Sire,
The young ones are best, I’m thinking.
Can they tell everyone to save our land?
Our habitat’s rapidly shrinking.
Thanks very much, Your Highness,
For anything you can do.
From your grateful distant cousin,
Sent with love (but not kisses) to you.
You might not remember me.
I’m Cousin Poison Dart Frog,
From across the family tree.
Mum said a princess kissed you
And your life turned out very well.
No human should try kissing me -
Their lips would certainly swell.
I’m not writing to ask for a palace,
Or fancy clothes or a throne.
I love my bright warning outfit.
I adore my rainforest home.
I climb up trees when I want to,
Or sit on the leaf litter floor,
Catching insects with my tongue.
How could I ever want more?
I expect you think back fondly
To your long-ago froggy times,
So, I’m writing to ask you a favour,
In the hope that you won’t mind.
I need the help of your people, Sire,
The young ones are best, I’m thinking.
Can they tell everyone to save our land?
Our habitat’s rapidly shrinking.
Thanks very much, Your Highness,
For anything you can do.
From your grateful distant cousin,
Sent with love (but not kisses) to you.
