The Dirigible Balloon

A Winter Morning

Listen to David read his poem ...
A low, cold mist shrouds the frozen ground.
Everywhere is still …
The bare trees stand stark against the mean winter sky.
Behind the houses, sheep huddle together in the corner of the farmer’s field.
Their woolly winter coats look sad and bedraggled.
Everywhere is silent …
Yesterday’s puddles have frozen during the night so that
they glisten like frosted stepping stones.
To the east, a section of grey cloud begins to thin but the weak winter sun fails to break through.
Everywhere is calm …
Front doors open as wrapped up children set off for school.
Each child is a little dragon with frosted breath that drifts into the chill morning air.
In the distance, a church clock slowly chimes the early hour.
Everywhere is Winter …
