Bugs at the Table
There’s a cockroach on my strudel
There’s a spider on my lunch
A trail of ants is marching
on the eggs I got for brunch
There’s a slug in my spaghetti
and a mozzie in my tea
and hopping on my sandwich
is a pesky little flea
Were these bugs made ‘specially?
There must have been a reason
But it could have been thought out some more
for outdoor-eating season!
There’s a spider on my lunch
A trail of ants is marching
on the eggs I got for brunch
There’s a slug in my spaghetti
and a mozzie in my tea
and hopping on my sandwich
is a pesky little flea
Were these bugs made ‘specially?
There must have been a reason
But it could have been thought out some more
for outdoor-eating season!

About the Writer
Heather Haylock
Heather lives in Aotearoa New Zealand and is trained as a geographer. She writes picture books as well as fiction and non-fiction for education publishers. Heather's been experimenting with poetry and loves the way that poetry condenses a thought into words. She also likes how it can portray an idea (compared to the traditional story arc of other forms of story). Heather loves the sounds of words and seeing the fabric that forms when she stitches them together.
