The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Conkers

Listen to Paula ...
Carefully prised from prickly cases
Or plummeting - split open with a thunk.
Nature’s treasures revealed.
Kerb-side gems, gleaming wetly among autumn mulch.
Even if carved from wood, you could not be more perfect.
Rich mahogany sheen.
Solid and reassuring in my pocket.
