I Wish
I wish I was as smart as him.
I wish I was as cool.
I wish I was as popular
with all the kids at school.
I wish I had as many friends.
I wish I was as tall.
I wish, like him, I was the brightest
kid to walk the halls.
I wish I was as rich as him.
I wish my clothes were new.
I wish my teeth were straight like his.
I wish I had a clue.
But I am not the kid he is.
I know I’ll never be.
I could never be like him.
Instead, I’ll be like me.
