It Must Be the Wolf in Me

Listen to Stewart's poem
I know I chase rabbits
foxes and flies.
I know I bark at buses
and at cars and passers- by.
Please forgive me
I just can’t help myself
I really cannot help myself
It must be the wolf in me

I know I ate the chicken
that you left by the window to cool
And I know I broke the golden
Don’t drink out of the toilet! rule
Please forgive me
I just can’t help myself
I really cannot help myself
It must be the wolf in me.

A million moons have waxed and waned
A trillion dogs have lived and died
But the hint of that wolfish moon remains
in the glint in my wolfish eye

I know I weed down the leg of your grandfather’s chair
I know I chewed up your grandmother’s quilt
I know I jump in every muddy stream
with not one ounce of guilt.
Please forgive me
I just can’t help myself
I really cannot help myself
It must be the wolf in me

A million moons have waxed and waned
A trillion dogs have lived and died
But the hint of that wolfish moon remains
in the glint in my wolfish eye.
