Pavlova’s Picnic
Pavlova is a pussycat who likes to dine outside.
The bowl by the kitchen sink, she simply can’t abide.
Pavlova prances past the porch and plops under a tree.
Spends her daylight hours there watching patiently.
Pavlova prefers her meal to move before she takes a bite.
She likes it even better if her food puts up a fight.
Pavlova is not squeamish about a wiggling snack.
Once she pounces on her lunch, she won't give it back.
Pavlova lounges in the grass, ignores her owner’s voice.
He serves the same thing every day; out here she has a choice.
Pavlova's not the only diner to make her dinner squawk,
She keeps an eye on the sky for that hungry red-tailed hawk.
