Road Safety Advice
Hedgehogs ! Here’s some advice.
Although your quills
Would look rather nice
Impaling onions
And cubes of cheddar cheese.
You should wear your spikes within
And sew the holes in your skin
Then when a truck cruises
Up the motorway
You could roll aside
On to the hard shoulder
Passing yourself off,
Perhaps as a small boulder.
And then when it was
Time to hibernate
You could revert
Before it was too late
To your usual exterior
Prickly coat
This should put off
Any peckish fox or stoat
So you can snooze
The long winter snows away
Then wake once more
Upon some carless, careless,
Sunny, summer's day
Although your quills
Would look rather nice
Impaling onions
And cubes of cheddar cheese.
You should wear your spikes within
And sew the holes in your skin
Then when a truck cruises
Up the motorway
You could roll aside
On to the hard shoulder
Passing yourself off,
Perhaps as a small boulder.
And then when it was
Time to hibernate
You could revert
Before it was too late
To your usual exterior
Prickly coat
This should put off
Any peckish fox or stoat
So you can snooze
The long winter snows away
Then wake once more
Upon some carless, careless,
Sunny, summer's day
