Poetry for Children

Still Listening

There is a place I like to sit
at the bottom of the garden.
I don’t go there to find fairies
though I’m sure they must be hiding.
I don’t go to watch butterflies
or listen to soothing birdsong.
I go there to sit with Grandma
when I miss her hugs and kisses.
When I miss her words of wisdom,
I close my eyes and I see her.
She’s sitting knitting in the shade
carefully counting her stitches.
I still read to her like I did;
Alice, Heidi and Peter Pan
and I know she’s still listening.
