The Phoenix & Me
She flew into this world with me,
perched on my shoulder from the start—
a blazing thing with wildfire wings
and soul of ember sparks.
Though, from time to time, she's fallen
beneath the weight of her own flame,
disappearing into ashes
till only I remained.
And in those times I've kept her place
a safe space in which she could trust,
with plumage full and fit for flight,
she'd rise fresh from the dust.
perched on my shoulder from the start—
a blazing thing with wildfire wings
and soul of ember sparks.
Though, from time to time, she's fallen
beneath the weight of her own flame,
disappearing into ashes
till only I remained.
And in those times I've kept her place
a safe space in which she could trust,
with plumage full and fit for flight,
she'd rise fresh from the dust.
