The Seasons of Trees

Trees grow tall.
They’re all around.
They hold up the sky.
They go deep in the ground.

They reach out in winter
when it’s dark and it’s cold.
And while we are sleeping,
the new leaves unfold.

Trees remain faithful
when we feel afraid.
They welcome and shelter us
under their shade.

We come there in springtime
to play and to rest.
And birds come to sing there
and sometimes to nest.

In summer, trees shimmer
and in breezes, they sway.
And though the leaves grow there,
we know they won’t stay.

For when the wind whispers,
and a chill fills the air,
the leaves begin falling,
and the trees become bare.

Winter approaches
as autumn goes by,
but the trees reach out proudly,
and they hold up the sky.
