Poetry for Children

This Is Just Another Poem

I love writing poems
And I like reading rhymes.
Have you tried it? It is so much fun,
A brilliant way to spend your time!
But then I start to wonder;
Are there too many poems in my head?
Should I go out and try new things?
Find something else to do instead?

So…

I had a go at ballet
But I couldn’t see the pointe.
I stretched my body doing yoga
But I felt all out of joint.
I studied Archaeology
But that’s all in the past.
I made sculptures out of ice
But people said it wouldn’t last.
I tried swimming, I tried baking
But I got a soggy bottom.
I may have played some memory games
But sadly I’ve forgotten.
I thought I might go jousting
But that was only done at knight.
I practised my calligraphy
But something wasn’t write.
I was excited about team sports
(In fact, I got quite pumped)
But football made me dribble
And cricket left stumped.
So I’ve considered, mused and pondered
Given thought to where life’s going
And decided that I’ll just sit down
And write another poem.
