The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Time

Listen to David read his poem ...
Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock ...
Time to get up now,
You’ve got to go to school.
Wash your face and brush your hair,
I think you know the rules.
Eat up all your breakfast,
Go and brush your hair.
Will you get a move on,
We’ve got to get you there!

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock ...
Sit down in your seats, please,
I need to see who’s here.
I’m going to take the register
So answer loud and clear.
Time to get your books out,
We’ll start with Maths today.
My goodness, that’s an hour gone,
Put your books away!

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock ...
Be sure to eat your lunch, now,
It will make you big and strong.
Then after lunch we’ll do more work,
And maybe sing a song.
Don’t forget your homework,
Do it straight away.
Make it neat and check it through,
Remember what I say!

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock …
Time to eat your supper,
And then upstairs to bed.
Climb beneath the covers,
Lay down your sleepy head.
Outside the stars shine
In the moonlit sky.
Sweet dreams fill your head
As the hours drift slowly by.

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock.
Time to get up now,
You’ve got to go to school.
Wash your face and brush your hair,
I think you know the rules.

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock …
