Woodpecker Nest
Woodpecker lives
in a hole in a tree
or a cactus
or birdhouse
from which it can see
above
and below
its cavity nest
and if there are bugs,
that’s really the best.
If you are patient
and check on the hole,
you might be rewarded
a glimpse of a show
as small heads stick out
to chatter for food,
and parents bring bugs
to their newly-hatched brood.
in a hole in a tree
or a cactus
or birdhouse
from which it can see
above
and below
its cavity nest
and if there are bugs,
that’s really the best.
If you are patient
and check on the hole,
you might be rewarded
a glimpse of a show
as small heads stick out
to chatter for food,
and parents bring bugs
to their newly-hatched brood.
